Les Heureux, part 2 or Joyeux Noel 2012

Merry Christmas 2012, all!

I hadn't originally intended for this to be the second part in my Les Heureux series; I just wanted to make a Les Mis Christmas card.

But the treatment arrived fully formed: what if, like in Toy Story, the characters had a life of their own outside of the books, movies, fan fiction and fan art? What would they be like?

I saw them as a theatrical troupe, a repertory. Since the nicest actors make the most effective villians, I saw the Thenardiers as an old theatre couple, together for many years, and what they do together more than anything else is laugh.

Javert is the most talented actor in the group, like Alexander Dane (Alan Rickman) in Galaxy Quest, he yearns to be recognized for his Shakespearean portrayals. Definitely a cat person.

Eponine is a tomboy and Enjolras her BFF, who may or may not be gay; I think my subconscious was working overtime and I was channeling Barbie and Ken from Toy Story 3 XD

Marius and Cosette are former child actors now carving out careers as romantic leads. They're still together and deeply in love so I'm not going to even raise the possibility that one of them may have been unfaithful with a director

If Marius and Cosette are first love, Valjean and Fantine are true love. An established leading man who now finds character roles more fulfilling and a model turned actress, they're both humanitarian and human rights activists who first met at a rally. They feel as passionately about each other as they do about their respective causes.
